My Role: Artist
Aside from designing the game with my teammates, I almost exclusively contributed to this game by making art.
My specific achievements on this project included:
- Drawing and animating the three boss forms and the player.
- Drawing attacks for the player and each boss form.
- Drawing 16 effect icons.
- Drawing the simple parallax background.
- Drawing the game logo and card UI.
About:
This game was made in 48 hours from August 2, 2019 to August 24, 2019 for the Game Maker's Toolkit Jam 2019.
It is a multi-phase boss battle shoot-em-up where between phases the player chooses a modifier card that affects their stats, the enemy's stats, and causes a cosmetic change.
The jam theme was "only one", which we loosely interpreted in several ways:
- The only enemy is one (three-phase) boss.
- The player can only pick one new modifier card at a time.
- The player must beat the boss on one life.
Other Notes:
The game as a whole suffers from a lack of polish and player feedback due to our
ambitious scope for the limited time we had. There's no sound effects, no visible
player health, an instant reset on death, no visual indicator when a bullet despawned
before reaching its target, and no tutorial. We also weren't able to implement all of
the card modifiers we planned.
